think IPMR first

IPMR was the first in central Illinois to develop a lymphedema program. Physician referral is required for this program. Talk with your physician or call IPMR at (309) 692-8670 for information.

The IPMR Lymphedema Program focuses on preventing and/or managing this chronic condition.

Lymphedema is a persistent swelling can occur as a result of a problem in the lymphatic system or from injury. Men or women who have undergone surgery or radiation therapy are particularly at risk for developing lymphedema—even many years later. Those who suffer from unresolved swelling may benefit from this program.

Qualified evaluation and treatment

You will receive a comprehensive evaluation by a specially trained and certified Occupational or Physical Therapist. Your plan of treatment may include any of these components:

  • Individualized exercises
  • Sensory integration desensitization and re-education
  • Manual lymphatic drainage to reduce and control lymphedema
  • Compression bandaging techniques
  • Scar tissue management
  • Pain management and relaxation techniques
  • Use of equipment such as adapted utensils or reaching devices
  • Education and information on related topics, including support groups

Breast cancer survivors qualify for select free treatment

Susan G. Komen for the Cure has generously awarded a grant to IPMR that provides all breast cancer survivors with select free treatment costs. If you are a breast cancer survivor, you qualify.
