Improving function and quality of life. Call 800-957-4767.
IPMR developed the first program in downstate Illinois to help individuals maintain their driving independence.
For more information call (800) 957-4767. Drivers, family members, special education programs and others may call and assist with scheduling an evaluation. A physician's referral is required.
This program is designed to answer, "Is it safe for me to drive?" Anyone who has had a medical condition or injury that could impair driving abilities can be tested. This includes those who have had a stroke or a traumatic brain injury. It is also appropriate for those with progressive diseases such as muscular dystrophy, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer's. Some individuals may not know if they have the physical strength or coordination to drive safely—this may include people recovering from a serious illness or young adults born with cerebral palsy or physical disabilities.
The initial evaluation takes about three hours and includes:
If further testing and training are needed, these additional services are available:
Please note that Medicare and many other insurance plans do not cover the cost of driving evaluations because they do not consider "driving" to be medically necessary. IPMR has priced this program to be as affordable as possible. Financial assistance is available under IPMR's Charity Care policy to assist those who do not have the resources to pay for this assessment.
