IPMR History

IPMR has been a model for physical rehabilitation for 60 years.

The Institute was begun in the late 1940s to improve the function and quality of life for polio victims, veterans and geriatric patients. Our prestigious “Peoria Plan” for rehabilitation became the model for rehabilitation in centers across the country.

After the Salk vaccine brought an end to the polio epidemics that swept this country, the Institute devoted itself to the treatment of injury and chronic illness and to the physical health and well being of our aging population. We’ve been here all along, doing good work for our neighbors at locations throughout the tri-county area of Central Illinois.
