SpeechEasy® is a small, wearable device for the treatment of stuttering, helping people speak more fluently and with less effort. While not a cure, SpeechEasy devices have demonstrated the potential to help many who stutter.

SpeechEasy fluency devices are based on a natural phenomenon called the "choral effect" to dramatically reduce or even eliminate stutter when speaking or singing in unison with others. This effect has been well documented and is the principle that is re-created with SpeechEasy technology.
SpeechEasy devices are worn similar to a hearing aid. However, rather than amplify sound, they use Altered Auditory Feedback (AAF) technology to create the choral effect. For speakers wearing the SpeechEasy device, their words are replayed in their ear with a very slight delay and frequency modification. As a result, the brain perceives that the wearer is speaking in unison with another person. This perception of 'speaking in unison' creates the choral effect, effectively reducing or even eliminating stutter.
SpeechEasy devices can be an appropriate and valuable tool for improving fluency. When used in conjunction with therapy, speech therapists have reported that progress is enhanced and made less stressful for their patients. Speech therapists determine who is an appropriate candidate for a fluency device as well as what therapies and techniques will enhance the device's success.
In addition, to ensure ideal outcomes, the fitting of the device itself is handled only by state-registered and ASHA-certified Speech Pathologists who have also completed an additional SpeechEasy certification program.
