The IPMR Visual Rehabilitation program focuses on optimizing remaining vision and can help individuals to become more independent and to live a more satisfying life.

Patients of any age are appropriate for referral. Services can be provided at any IPMR location as well as at home or other living facilities. For more information contact us at (309) 692-8110.

Having “low vision” means a person has impaired vision yet has some useful sight. The individual does not have to be legally blind to be considered to have low vision.

Vision loss may be mild or severe and can include decreased visual acuity, and/or visual field loss caused by:

  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular Degeneration
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Other visual disorders

Occupational Therapy staff work with each person’s goals to improve abilities in:

  • Reading and writing
  • Self care
  • Safety and mobility at home and in the community
  • Managing money
  • Orientation to environment
  • Adaptive abilities and more
